Capt. George Conway b. 27 Dec 1789, at "Sedley Lodge" in Caroline County, Virginia; was appointed by President Madison to the position of Collector of Customs, Port of Mobile, and moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1828.
He married Sarah Newbold Howard (1791-1884) circa 1811 in Philadelphia, PA;
children included:
(1) Thomas Howard Conway (1819-49), born in Caroline Co., VA.; a Princeton graduate, 1841, he was an attorney at Marion, Alabama;
(2) Eliza F. Conway married Dec 5, 1829 at Mobile, Alabama, to Drury Thompson. Eliza Thompson had five children: Laura born 135, Sarah born 1836, Mordecai born 1837, William Waller Thompson (August 28, 1837-Dec. 6, 1876), and Eliza born 1843.
