My ancestor born about 1793,joined the 17th Regiment of Foot giving his place of origin as Inch Dublin. Later in Australia I find he said his family came from Leitrum. After a period in India Thomas Conroy married in England where their daughter Ann was born, had his first son John in Galway 22 August 1827 and the family came to Australia with the regiment in 1830. Parents of Thomas were Nancy Christie and John Conroy. Thomas stayed in Australia when the regiment were pposted to India.
