My name is Paul Conroy, I moved to New York City from Ireland a number of years back and am hoping to trace some relatives of my father's who moved to Iowa or Illinois in the 1880-1900 period.
I think the name is James Conroy and he moved to either Down, Dowe or Crawford county in Iowa. There he became a farmer and married someone called Dennison or in the town of Dennison. The family kept in touch with relatives in Ireland till the late 1930's and then no contact. This James Conroy was killed in an accident crossing a bridge in a horse and carriage in the early 1900's. His family in Co. Laois, Ireland were Patrick (my grandfather, born in 1870 approx), John and Ellen.
