In your first message, you indicated that your g-grandmother was born ca. 1970's, but in your second message you give 1859 as the specific date. Is 1859 a bit of new info. you've just gotten from someone? If your g-grandmother was born in 1864 or later, there will probably be an Irish Civil record of her birth. If she was born earlier, there may be a church baptismal record, if you can be certain of the R.C. Parish. Kilmaine, the town, (in the Barony of Kilmaine) is in the same area of So. Mayo that my Conroy/Conry family came from. Ballinrobe, Ballindine, and Kilmaine are within about a 20 mi. radius of one another. My Conry ancestors were a family of tailors (through several generations), and they seem to have led rather transient lives, though they always lived in townlands in this same area of So. Mayo. I strongly suggest that you secure a copy of your g-grandmother's death certificate. There is a strong possibility that this will give the names of both of her parents, though probably not the exact Ireland location in which she was born. Her marriage certificate/license will probably also give her parents' names. Also, since you know the precise date and location of her death, you might also locate her obituary in whatever was the local newspaper at the time. I have done this, and some of the information I discovered was quite a surprise (including aunts and uncles, g-aunts and g-uncles I didn't know I had; mention of parents and siblings still living in Ireland; etc.) I will be doing some more research on my Irish roots now that the academic semester is ending (I'm on a college faculty). When I have the time, I go in to Boston to the New England Historic Genealogy Society research library which contains lots of Irish records on microfilm and microfiche. I'll keep my eyes open for info. that might relate to your Bridget Conroy. Please confirm for me the 1859 vs. 1870's birthdate for Bridget, and let me know if you discover any more details about her from U.S. records. By the way, age 41 wasn't too old for a woman to bear a child, even in 1900. Was your grandfather her only child, or the last of several (or many)? Let me know if I can help further.
