I came across this info in my files today; hopefully, it will be of help to someone!
John Conrad & his family can be found in the "Conewago Chapel of Founding Families" and in Vol II of the "Catholic Trails West."
John is listed in Berwick Twp in 1803 & again in 1804. In 1805 in Mt. Pleasant with one acre and in 1806 with 2 acres. There is a John Conrad listed in Berwick Twp 1780, 1781, 1782, 1783 & 1793.
Farm Labouror--Minallen Twp 1807
Cabinetmaker-Mt. Pleasant 1814
Farmer--Mt. Pleasant 1821
John's parents came from Alsace--Loraine, at the time it belonged to France. It is believed that John's father may have been one Peter Conrad.
After reading "Catholic Trails West Vol II" Peter is included in a Parish list from 1779-1783. Post-Revolutionary growth in the Conewago Parish. He may have come from Taneytown, MD. The first tax list that he is on is 1783 & again in 1799. His children could have been born in Frederick County, MD.
Maria Elisabetha could be his sister. She married Peter Adelsberger in 1796; they had 2 sons, Francis Xavier (b. 27 Aug 1797); Michael C. (b. 15 Aug 1800); and a daughter, Anna Alisabetha (b. 4 Aug 1812) in Conewago, Adams County, PA.
Mr. Daniel J. Byrne of Loretta, PA, wrote a book on the Conrad Family: "The Valley of the Pines."
Also refer to "Memoir of Thomas Conrad, March 1867."
I hope this info is useful to someone!
