The town is Kaldenkirchen near Krefeld. The
Custer (Custard, Kestor, Castor, etc) family
were founders of Germantown, PA in 1683 and
Paulus & Aret (Arnold) were popular given
names. One of them married Isabella Conrad &
she's not a descendant of Thones Kunders, my
ancestor whose posterity use mostly CONARD
and CUNARD. BUT we are related as Kunders'
mother-in-law was an op den Gräff, the same
lineage as the Custers. During my 40 years
working on the CONARD family I have run across about 20 CONRAD families who have taken the spelling CONARD--why I don't know.
Two of the CONRAD experts you might contact:
John B. Conrad, 2981 Four Pines,
Lexington, KY 40502 and
Bernard W. Conrad, 2005 Beecham Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607
Good luck, Erik P. Conard---Denver
