Greetings, thanks for the reply.
I was beginning to suspect that my family came from an area of Prussia that is now Poland because when I did research on the cousin von Kluge who was in the German army in WW1 and WW2, he was from an area of Poland. And looking at older maps I saw that it was "Prussia" in the mid-1800's.
I recently found that the immigrating husbands name was either Joseph Conrad Klugh/Kluey or Conrad Joseph Klugh/Kluey. I got copies of two of his sons marriages in Ontario and on one certificate it lists his first name as Joseph, the other lists his first name as Conrad. So I'm hoping one is his middle name and the other his first. But I'm not certain.
Especially having seen Wilhemine Conrad, his wife. If Joseph's middle name was Conrad, could he possibly have been related to Wilhemine? A Conrad cousin a few times removed? Of course this is all speculation.
I have not been able to trace them back to Prussia (as in what area they were born in or where they emigrated out of).
Now that I have some tentative first names for the husband I can try asking the Canadian archives if they have old immigration or naturalization records.
Bye for now,
Melissa
