Hi J. The "thing" about death certificates is that the information provided is usually considered unreliable because you are never sure who exactly provided it. In this case, the place of birth is highly suspect. From what I found in the census years, Joshua indicates his place of birth as Ohio and his mother is noted as Pennsylvania. Although I was unable to locate Joshua with his birth family, it is likely that he came to Wisconsin sometime after the 1850 census alone and then was joined by his mother at a later date, probably after the death of his father. If Joshua's spouse provided the info on the death certificate, she may not have even known exactly where Joshua was born...especially if they spent a lot of years in Wisconsin.
