JUSTICE CONRAD DIE'S AT AGE 85

John H. Conrad, Justice of the peace for Camarillo township, died at the age of 85 years.

He was a pioneer of California and had lived in this county for 53 years.

Judge Conrad was born Feb. 7, 1841, in Forsythe county (correction, Stokes county), North Carolina. He came to California in 1863 and lived a time in Grant Valley (correction, Grass Valley).

He was married in 1873 (correction 1867) and came to Ventura County in 1873.

Death was attributed to old age and heart complications.

Mr. Conrad had held the office of Justice for 15 years.

He is survived by the widow (added, Mary Ann Alexander[1850 IA -1930 CA]), a brother Alec, of Los Angeles, and six children, Frank, Bert, Jess and Ray Conrad, Mrs. Sadie Alexander, of this county, and Roy Conrad of New York.

The funeral is to be held at 10:30 a. m. Monday at Baptist church at Camarillo.

The funeral cortege from Camarillo to Ivy Lawn cemetery, where interment is to be made, is to be escorted by a squad of mounted state motor offices, including Captain K. C. Murphy, Bernie Isensee, Ray Olds and Steve Flynn.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Judge John Henry Conrad was the son of Ephraim Conrad (1800 NC - 1900 CA) and Sarah D. Oakley (1812 NC - 1897 CA) of Stokes, now Forsythe County, North Carolina.
The family migrated from NC to Iowa where Ephraim Conrad settled and the town of Moravia was laid out and platted June 27, 1851, by Joseph Stauber, Theophilis Vierle and Ephraim Conrad.
Looking for information on one of the 5 sons of Ephraim and Sarah D. Oakley Conrad. He was Christian Conrad, born about 1835 in NC, no further information on Christian. Any help appreciated.
