Seeking info on MATILDA CONNORS BURKE.

MICHAEL was a tombstone engraver. He died between 1887 and 1897. Mary, Estella and James were sent to an orphanage for a while after their father's death.
Does anyone know how to research orhanage records in the Buffalo, NY area? They may give a clue as to Michael's date of death.
Any info on Matilda Connors siblings or parents would be greatly appreciated.
