Since Owen Connor was a Sgt., there should be rcds of his service. Hopefully, he was in the active army and not a part of some state militia.

You can find regular army military rcds at:

http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/pre-ww-1-records.html

State rcds are usually less revealing and may have been lost to time.
