what was your irish hometown like?

i was at the local LDS center last night and had the opportunity to look at something i wouldn't have normally thought to check. someone else had ordered the microfiche of the Parliamentary Gazetteer of 1844. (think i spelled that wrong). its an interesting snapshot of Ireland. its kinda like a state of the union address, with an end of the year stockmarket report, and a travel logue. it was the last part i found enlightening and humorous. it seems that they list just about every town, alphabetically, and tell you about it.
i found out the Sion Mills in CoTyrone really was a mill, a linen-yard mill. and that the 700 peasantry (a quote) were grateful for having this wonderful opportunity to work in such a pristine environment, because the mill used water power rather than coal and so no smoke stack, no smoke and no awful smog to obstruct the view of visitors to the local pub.
the number of towns listed was long, very long. i bet you could find your town there. I'm planning on going back this weekend or early next week to get another peek at it. if you'd like me to lookup your town, email me. no promises, but i'll look.
