My father Patrick Michael Connolly was emigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1957. He was born in his parents home, Sporthall, located just south of Ballybay, Co. Monaghan. Both my older brothers were born in Ballybay as well. My grandfather Thomas Connolly was born in county Monaghan on January 13, 1875. The family home, which he inherited from his father Patrick, was called Sporthall (it is still there today). Thomas Connolly had seven siblings, Patrick (who died young), Mary, Henry (who emigrated to America after stealing a cow from his father goes the family legend), Owen, Bridget, Catherine and Elizabeth. Patrick and Mary were older than Thomas, the rest younger. Thomas married Jane Clinton of Comerta, Co. Monaghan on February 2, 1906. They had eight children, seven girls and then a boy, my father, Patrick Micheael Connolly, born December 27, 1918/died April 16, 1977. My grandfather Thomas died June 30, 1938 while my grandmother Jane died July 15, 1941. My great grandfather was Patrick Connolly (birthdate unknown) He was baptized February 27, 1833 and was born in the town of Mayo, Co. Cavan. He married Mary Dempsey, also of Mayo, on January 10, 1869. Mary died on March 13, 1908 while Patrick died November 12, 1922. He apparently had one older brother (whose name was probably Thomas, following the tradition of naming the first born male after his grandfather). My great-great grandfather was Patrick Connolly, born in 1799 (probably in Mayo, Co. Cavan). He married Mary Brady who was from the town of Mayo as well. I would be interested in hearing from any Connollys who think they may be related somewhere down the line, especially those who might descend from Henry Connolly who emigrated to America in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Mark Connolly
