My great, great, great grandparents emigrated from Ireland c.1843. Not sure where from. So far no records in the States turn up anything. They emigrated to Saugerties, Ulster County, NY and settled in the hamlet of either Malden or Quarryville. Quarryville was the 1st stop as most of the kids were born in Malden. The kids names are Thomas, John, James and Ann. Bernard and Bridget appear on the 1855 NY Census. What proves elusive is the county of origin in Ireland. I've seen where many Connelly's(Connolly's) were from Galway,Roscommon and Monaghan. I'm wondering if the motivation to go to "Ulster" county in NY was because of the familiarity of the name, hence coming from Co.Monaghan. Or since Bernard was a quarryman, he was familiar with bustin' up rock in the fields of Connaught so he found work in what he knew how to do best. He worked the bluestone quarries in the Saugerties area. His children were all baptised in St.Mary of the Snow Church. He and Bridget are buried in the church cemetary but no stone marks their grave. The Connelly name has undergone several changes over the years. From the original Connelly to Conley to Connolly. Obviously it's the same clan. Any hints/ideas about how I can find out the county of origin would be very helpful. Also, I've seen where the Egan name is also of Galway origin. Thanks, one and all for the help and direction. Greg Burns
