about 10 years ago, I was in Ireland, searching for my Connolly ancestors in Drom, Co. Tipperary. I did find some Connollys in the area, tho we were not able to match our families. But, they had several headstone transcriptions, most from cemeteries in the area (I think Inch Parish) plus this one: James Connolly Born Thurles 1833 Died Oct. 19, 1904 age 71 years. This was from the Shands Track Cemetery, Broadfields. A bit of research leads me to believe this is in New Zealand, near Addington? (I'm in the US, so my knowledge of NZ geography is severely limited..uh..nonexistent.) So, if anyone here is a descendent or in any way related to this James Connolly, you might want to look in Bouladuff and/or Ballypatrick in county Tipperary rather than Thurles. My gggrandfather John Connolly was from Drom, according to his cemetery headstone (and baptismal records of siblings verifies this), but his obituary said he was from Nenagh, and when he registered in Newport, RI, he said he was from Thurles! I have a Tipperary Ordnance map. Bouladuff is about 5 km west/northwest of Thurles along a road labeled T21. Ballypatrick is about 2 km north of Bouladuff. Both are, *I think* in the parish of Inch, which means you pay through the nose for info from the Tipp. Heritage Ctr. As I said, I can't find any link between this Connolly and my Connolly ancestor, but I can tell you Ballypatrick and Bouladuff Connollys are listed in Griffiths. Hope this helps somebody somewhere! -Pat. Notify Administrator about this message?
