If Ruby died before she was 65, she may have never collected a Social Security benefit, and therefore was never reported to Social Security as having died.The 1940 census for Pennsylvania has not been transcribed and indexed yet.When it is available (later this year???), you may be able to find Mirl and Ruby as a married couple.
I found a Pedigree Resource File on Familysearch for Mirl Conner.It states that he was born on 13 July 1904 at New Kensington, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvannia, the son of Amos Conner, Jr. and Isabelle Patterson.Isabelle died on 12 January 1907, which explains why Amos,Jr. was living with his parents in the 1910 census.The Pedigree Resource File is here:
