Of William Connelly who died in Brunswick Co., Virginia in 1783 and was married to Sarah. Some researchers have listed this Sarah as Sarah Barrow. I have found no record that this Sarah was a Barrow. William M.(Miles) Connelly did marry Sarah J. Barrow in 1841. I believe this is Miles Connelly son of Lewis Connelly. I would like to offer a few possible corrections to the children of William and Sarah Connelly. I don't mean to sound as though I'm the expert, I am far from it and can use all the help I can get in interpreting the data. I have found several references to William and Sarah Connelly which would link them to some of there children but would assume that there are children of which there is not a clear record and also some children who may not have survived, and of which there is no record. Firstly I found these birth records in the book "Register of Albemarle Parish: Surry and Sussex Counties" Pg.68 John, s. of Wm Connelly & wife Sarah b. Feb 27; c. May 11, 1760: gdpts John Adkins, Pheobe Eppes, Lucy Adkins. (This would be read as: John, son of William and wife Sarah, born Feb 27 1760, christened May 11, 1760; Godparents John Adkins, Pheobe Epps, Lucy Adkins.) (I notice that on your file you list John as John S. Connelly and think maybe the s(son) in this record may have lead you to believe his middle initial was S. In fact I have only found two records to date that would give me any indication of his true middle initial. Land records in Mecklenburg Co., NC list John as John B. Connelly Sr. in land transactions involving my gg-grandfather John B. Connelly who would have been his oldest son and is referred to in those records as John B. Connelly Jr.) Pg. 179 Sabina d. of Wm Connelly & wife Sarah b. June 15; c. Sept 4, 1757: gdpts John Adkins, Pheobe Eppes, Lucy Adkins. (This would be the Sabina Connelly who married Richard Pepper 14 Sep 1786 in Brunswick Co., VA.) Pg. 206 Sally d. of Wm Connelly & wife Sarah b. 23 Feb; c. May 17, 1767: (I have found no other record of Sally to date) I do not know if the Albermearle Parish Records were incomplete or for what reason they did not contain the names of any other of the Connelly Children. For William Connelly who married Sally Fort: I believe this is probably the oldest child of William and Sarah Connelly born abt. 1754 based on ages from his pension record. There was and estate record for William Connelly(the elder) following his death which would have been Before 24 Aug 1783. The record did not give a great deal of information, just a list of some personnel property and did not offer the disposition. It did name as executor, William Connelly who was probably this William and his oldest son. Order Book 2, 1741-1742 (Reel 29) pp. 484-485. Inv. & Appr. rec. 24 Aug. 1783. Part of index to Brunswick County Wills and Administrations (1732 - 1800) (I viewed this record at the Dallas Public Library. It is on Microfilm and is a record of the Inventory of the Estate of William Connelly deceased) Also there is a Revolutionary War Pension Application for this William Connelly: This application gives his occupation as a blacksmith which would coincide with the information given by John Connelly, that he and his older brother were blacksmiths and did along with and apprentice boy repair 36 rifles for the militia and were excused from one tour of duty for there efforts. Also this William names as his daughter Elvira T. Connelly who is living with him at the time of his application. So Elivra T. Connelly is the grand-daughter of William and Sarah Connelly. The records also give his date of death as 30 Jan 1830. Connerly, William. S.40053 22 June 1818. Brunswick Co., VA. William Connerly of said county, aged 63, declares he enlisted in the Continetal army in March 1776 in the Borough of Norfolk, Va., in the company of Capt. James Mason of the 5th Virginia Regiment of Col. Parker. He served two years until discharged in Maryland and was in the battles of Monmouth Court House and several other inferior conflicts. 22 June 1818. Brunswick Co., Va. Shadrack Whit declares he and William Connerly enlisted at the same time and in the same company and served as Connerly stated. 23 Oct. 1820. Burnswick Co., Va. William Connelly of said county, aged 66, declares he served in Capt. James Mason's company in the 5th Virginia Regiment. He owns six hogs, one chest, four chairs, one saddle, one pair flat irons, one pewter dish, six plates, six knives and forks, one pot and one Dutch oven. He is a blacksmith. His family residing with him is a daughter Elvira T. Connelly, aged 17. William Connerly of Brunswick Co., Va., private in the regiment of Col. Parker in the Virginia line for two years, was placed on the Virginia pension roll at $8 per month from 22 June 1818 under Act of 1818. Certificate 10262 was issued 4 May 1819. From:"Virginia Revolutionary Pension Applications, Vol. 22" WILLIAM CONNERLY BRUNSWICK COUNTY PRIVATE VIRGINIA LINE $96.00 ANNUAL ALLOWANCE $1,154.40 AMOUNT RECEIVED MAY 4, 1819 PENSION STARTED AGE 76 DIED JANUARY 30, 1830 Elvira T. Connelly married Edward Young 2 April 1825. Of Lewis Connelly: I believe as you have recorded that Lewis is also a child of William and Sarah Connelly. I have only found a few records of Lewis and only one that clearly links him to Sarah Connelly. He is of course shown on the 1810 Census for Brunswick county recorded in the household next to William Connelly(the eldest son of William and Sarah) He is shown with several children 1 male and 4 female, his wife, and one female over the age of 45 who could be Sarah Connelly liveing in his household. He shows one male under 10 years of age. I beleive this is probably Ira Connelly although I have no proof of this assumption other than the fact that William Connelly does not list a male in his household in 1810 that would meet the date of birth for Ira Connelly as given by his decendants(1804/05). Lewis is shown on the 1850 Census living with Miles Connelly and Family. I beleive this Miles Connelly is in fact William M.(Miles) Connelly who married Sarah J. Barrow 6 Dec 1841 and that there is a record of the death of there son John Wesley Connelly recorded in Brunswick Co., Virginia. He would have been about 18 years old and a soldier in the CSA. When I can check his military record it may bare this assumption out. Also given the 1850 Census, I placed the birth of Lewis Connelly about 1765. BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA - DEATH REGISTER The following data was taken from the Bureau of Vital Statistics Register of Deaths for 1861, and 1862 Microfilm Reel No. 5, Library of Virginia. The book "Brunswick County Marriages 1790-1853" gives two records which include Lewis Connelly. His marriage to Lucy Ally and he also appears as bondsman for Sabina Connelly in her marriage to Richard Pepper. The record is listed as followis: Connelly, Sabina & Richard Pepper 14 Sep 1786 b(bondsman)-Lewis Connelly Bride is of age d.(daughter) of Sarah Connelly I believe that between my ancestor John Connelly born in 1760 and Sabina Connelly b. in 1767 that Daniel (likely b. 1762/63) and Lewis Connelly(likely b. 1764/65) fill in that time span. There are also mentioned in marriage records a Hannah Connelly and a Martha Connelly who could possibly be children of William and Sarah Connelly.
