Connie: My name is Enid Connelly-May and I am going to try to answer both yours and Gary's questions in one fell swoop. Try looking in the book "Early Families of Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky". There is an extensive section on the Connelly family under the chapter titled 'Conley or Connelly Family of Floyd and Johnson County'. This section begins on page #143. This is quite an extensive section. In this section it relates that Dr. Henry Connelly, late Governor of New Mexico, son of John Donaldson Connelly of Virginia and brother or first cousin of Captain Henry Connelly. This is very likely true for the names Henry, Edmund, Thomas and John run through the whole Connelly descendancy. Matter of fact the first of my Connelly line to arrive in America were four brothers, sons of Henry Connelly, of County Armagh (pronounced Ar-mah). These brothers were named (of course): Edmund, Thomas, John and Henry. Henry, one of the brothers, married Betsy Vaux Buckley in Charleston, South Carolina. One of their children was Edmund (see what I mean) and he married Mary Edgefield, also, in the state of South Carolina. Edmund and Mary had two sons Harmon and Thomas (both born after their move to Guilford County, North Carolina). Harmon remained in North Carolina and had a large family of sons and daughters. Thomas, though, resided temporarily in Pennsylvania (Chester County) where Captain Henry was born. He moved with his family back to North Carolina where he married Ann MacGregor and became the father of ten. As is tradition among the Irish and southern families the names of four of his children were Edmund, Thomas, Henry and John. Try also the Conley Corner Website. Not all the information is correct for I had to send the website owner some corrections but it is pretty accurate. So as you both can see the similarities in both your cases point to there being a relationship between Captain Henry and both your predecessors. Also, one of Captain Henry's sons, Thomas by name, has a son named Constantine. As tradition was that children were named after relatives the connection seems almost certain. And remember Captain Henry's great-grandfather came over from Ireland with his three brothers. Does anyone have any information on the descendants of these men. I sincerely hope I could help you!!! Thanks, Enid
