I have been researching my mom's Southern family for years. It has been quite an adventure with wonderful discoveries...and mysteries. I am trying to solve one of those mysteries...so, I'm knocking on the Connelly's door. My mother was a Bryan/O'Berry. Her father was John Nathan Bryan who married Elberta O'Berry. John Nathan Bryan's father was Francis Conrad Bryan who married Pearlie Eugenia Tyner. Pearlie Eugenia Tyner was daughter of John J. Tyner. John J. Tyner was son of Simeon Tyner who married Hester (Esther) Ann Southwell on 26 Apr 1827 in Effingham County, GA. According to information collected from many other Tyner/Southwell researchers,Hester Ann Southwell was born on 17 Jun 1808 in Barnwell/Orangeburg District SC. She was the daughter of Eleanor LeConte or Connelly (or both). Eleanor LeConte/Connelly (born 19 Mar 1785, SC) married John Lafayette Southwell on 25 Dec 1806 in Orangeburg District, SC. They had three children: Hester Ann (b 1808); George Washington Southwell (b 1810); Eleanor M. Southwell (b 1812). Eleanor Connelly/LeConte (the mother) died of childbirth complications in 1812 in Effingham County, GA. (The first two children were born in SC. Her husband, Reverend John L. Southwell wasted no time grieving, as he married wife #2 Mary Roberts Hylton within a few months of Eleanor's death in Effingham GA. I have spent days looking for Eleanor LeConte/Connelly. Her name is not on any SC cenus and her father doesn't turn up until about 1830. John L. Southwell was a neighbor of a Connelly in Barnwell; he sold land to a John or Joseph "Conley" in 1805, shortly before his daughter's marriage to a Connelly. I have hunted all alternative spellings. I have also thoroughly researched the LeConte family (LeConte, Lacount, Lacompte, Lacomte, Lecount...) If anyone has any information about the Connellys who lived in the Barnwell SC area in the late 1700 or early 1800's...I would so very much appreciate hearing from you.
