My GGrandmother, Hannah Connell(born 9-20-1854) had brothers named James (born 9-9-1860) John (7-5-1857), and a sister named Abina (born 7-20-1862, married Maurice Hogan of Douglas). They were born in Ballygarvan, CO Cork (near Cork Airport). Their father was Maurice Connell who married Mary Lavallan on Feb. 7, 1877 in Ballygarvan. If this is not your James, perhaps her father Maurice (married to Mary Lavallan) had a brother named James? Hopefully, we have a connection.
