My information for quite awhile is that Mary was the daughter of Mathias O'Bryan. I have been looking at quite a few Maryland records and do not see any indication that she is his daughter. Mathias was said to have been born about 1731 - to late to have been the father of Mary. However, she might have been his sister. He is said to be the son of a James, who was killed in an accident in 1737. If that is true, and Mary was born about 1741/4, she could not be his daughter. Mathias was said to have married first in 1666, which is late (age about 37). One of his birthdates is listed as 1627, so he could be the father of Mary by an unknown first wife, if 1744 is her correct birthdate. However, that all seems unlikely. The only children I have ever seen listed for Mathias are Eleanor and William. The tie between the families seems to be only from the will of Ellinor O'Bryan,"surviving heir of Matthias Obryan, dec'd to Mary Connell, wife of Dennis Connell, for love and affection to Mary Connell for her natural live, the to William, Elizabeth, Mary and Angelica Connell." She gave them land in Charles County. She does not mention any relationship, so possibly Mary was her aunt, not a sister as some have thought. I'm interested in what others have to say about this.
