Barbara,

My great-great-great grandfather was Stephen Connell b. 1803 County Galway. I'm not sure exactly where he was born, but he and his son Richard appear to have connections to Abbeyknockmoy, Mountbellew, Moylough, and Tuam.

He is listed in Griffith's Valuation as living in Briefield (Toole) in 1858.

Did your John have a brother or cousin named Stephen?

Stephen Connell's son, my great-great grandfather Richard, named one of his sons John, as did my great grandfather Stephen, the tradition continues to the present.

My realtives aappear to have named their sons, Stephen, Richard, Thomas and John almost exclusively.

Thanks Sue
