Connell family in IL & MI

I am looking for information on my Grandfather Walter Wallace Connell who was born in 1863 in Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio. He later married Minnie E. Lewis who was born in 1872 in Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri and they lived in Chicago, Illinois. They had four children, Richard, Burton, Marie and, my father, Edward Walter.

My father Edward Walter Connell was born on August 31, 1904 in Chicago, Illinois. My mother was Ila Anna Taylor who was born on September 24, 1906 in Sherwood, Michigan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am just beginning to research my family tree and don't have any idea how to effectively start.
