I'm not a professional, but have researched Sam until I'm "loopy". Thing is, there were 2 Sam's approx same age. One lived to a ripe old age of 81 years and I'm thinking he was descendant of Rev. Hugh. "My" Sam Conn, the Drover, was the one that petitioned for Russell Co. to be divided to make Lee Co.(happened 1792) He was also one of the men hired by VA's Gov to protect the Powell's Valley residents from Indians and was out of Turkey Cove Gap. He married HANNAH ELY (dtr. of Simon Ely, Powell's Valley) and they had sons Adam Ely/Eli?, William C. and John, plus dtrs. John is supposed to have fathered Vachel Clary Conn, my grgrandfather. I haven't found a connection between my Sam and Rev. Hugh. Also, no Jesse's & Levi's found in this line. During the years my Sam was in Lee Co.,VA, other Sam (I call him "ripe old Sam" was in Jefferson Co, KY (SE Louisville.) My Sam was still paying taxes in Lee Co. in 1806 when he died. I don't believe he ever got to KY. I think Hannah may have died in VA too. All this genealogy involves quite a lot of conjecture, but DARN is it fun when you find documentation. I just found that Hannah's brother, Adam Ely, was among the dozen men who chased and shot "rogue" Indian Chief Benge and ended the Indian raids on the settlers of SW Virginia. Wow! See: R.M. Addington, Hist. of Scott Co., pg. 115-119.
