I think I forgot to thank you for this information. My great=grandmother was Martha Conn or Cone. She married Albert Gideon Briggs after the Civil War, about 1867. The couple moved to Paris, Lamar County, Texas, where Martha Conn Briggs died in 1879. I have never seen my great-grandmother's maiden name in writing. My mother asked my grandmother about it long ago, and she said it was ''Cowan," or at least that's how my mother remembers it. According to our family information, Martha Conn/Cone Briggs was half Indian, either Cherokee or Choctaw. I got the information about the Levi B. Conn family from Mike Duke several years ago. He is descended from a half brother of Elizabeth Duke Conn, wife of Levi B. Conn. But Mike had no information indicating that either Elizabeth or Levi was Indian. However, I have no documentation of the marriage of Albert G. Briggs and Martha Conn, daughter of Levi B. Conn, other than Mike Duke's information. I have been assuming his information is correct. But there were several Martha Conns in the Tishomingo-Pontotoc area of Mississippi who were the right age to marry A. G. Briggs. So I am grateful that you have eliminated one of the Marthas from my list! Martha Arman Murphy Notify Administrator about this message?
