My mother and I found that James was the son of a Thomas Conn by Mary McElkany. We found that it says Thomas came to America with his father, William, from Down County around 1800.

I started searching online databases for residents of Down County and the closest I've come so far was a William Conne. The record says that he leased a house to a Boyd family in 1751. If by some chance that would be the same person, then he probably would have been pretty old when he came to America, which may account for him not really having any records. I'd like to find out about this William Conn if at all possible.
