Hi! I had come to a similar conclusion about Ferguson having been married before. As you said, it appears as though Drucilla was the first wife with whom he had two kids (Ruben and Mary J.). I have also assumed that Drucilla's maiden name may have been Jackson since Ruben has it as a middle name and it seemed to be the trend to use the mother's maiden name to name her eldest child then with Mary Ferguson Conaly naming her eldest son Ferguson. John is my grandfather (Ruben and Betsy's (Rebecca) son. I vaguely remember an Aunt Mae, my grandfather's sister. I also remember a 'Doc' Cross; the only cousin of my father that I ever remember. I grew up in Linn County but moved as away as a kid. I've been to South Mineral Cemetery and even to North Mineral where Ruben and Betsy are supposedly buried. There is little left there and neither headstone is evident. There was a cemetary restoration project there but not much was left to restore.
I do not have the obit for Mary, Ruben, or Ferguson. I've tried to find one for Samuel but have not been able to locate one yet. Since he was so old, I thought they might have had an obit somewhere. I have seen a notice of his death in the Wyoming paper though. I also saw a notice of Ferguson's death but not an obit. It said that his remains were being brought back from Independence to Jones County; I noticed a stone at South Mineral for F Conley and also on the back of a double stone were his name and birth/death year. I'm trying to get more information on Samuel's parents so I can trace them back further than 1789 to see where they came from in Europe. I've always assumed it was Ireland but from where and when I do not know. Also, I am trying to find out who Betsy's parents were. I know she was born in Clinton County in the 1850's. Thanks for sharing your information! Bob
