Angela/Lisa, I am in the process of researching the Conklin name, also. Lisa is correct when she stated that the first Conklins came to America from England. My research shows that the name Conklin is derived from the Gaelic-Ceangleann, Caenglen, ,Conghaillan, early 2nd century nomadic celts who travelled around the isles lived at settlements called lynnes(lins) and they used a conch(pronounced conk) shell to call the clan to meeting, settlled around Belfast, therefore the name Conchlynne. Also a Dutch name" Konkelan " although I yet to find info on that name in early Dutch New Netherland (N.Y.) before 1664. I do know that a Betsy Conklin, age 35, arrived NYC, 1821, w/2 children from "Irish arriving in the US. (Irish GeneologyHelper, vol 6(1/76) pp81,82,83 and more
