Kathy, When I visited the library at Wh. Plains, N.Y., I did some hasty research on the Conklin name and came across several derivations from the Gaelic:
1- Conklin --- Ceangleann
2- " --- Caenglenn
3- " --- Conghaillan ?
4- " --- Conchlynne- a celtic tribe that resided around Belfast.
5- " --- Konkelan - From the Dutch.
All the records that I could find on Dutch
New Amsterdam never listed a Konkelan or a Conklin befor the British took N.Y. IN 1664. "The World Book of Conklins," published by Halbert Family Heritage does not list Conklins residing in Holland. I don't know accurate their info is. I think they get their info from telephone books. I guess that is okay.
I did find a Mc Conklin that came to America via St, Johnsbury, Canada from a passenger list at my local library, also a Betsy Conklin w/two children arrived N.Y. 1821(Irish Geneological Helper, vol 6
(Jan.,1976 page 81) ..
