Ananias Conkling (Jeremiah-2 Ananias-1) was born in 1672, probably in East Hampton, Suffolk County, New York. He was the fifth son of Jeremiah Conkling and Mary Gardiner, and was named for his grandfather, the immigrant ancestor. He was often called Ananias Junior, to differentiate him from his slightly older cousin.
Ananias married MARTHA-3 STRATTON, daughter of Joseph Stratton and Sarah Miller, on 3 April 1701, in East Hampton, Suffolk County, New York. They had several children:

Ananias was a member of the First Congregational Church of East Hampton, and is listed as owning the covenant there on 11 January 1701/2. This was a half-way step towards becomming a full member of the church, and entitled one's children to be baptized. His wife joined the church the same day.
His first appearance in the town records is dated 1706/7, when he received an £8 land right at Montauk. He was elected Assessor in 1708 and 1722, and town Trustee in 1710, 1718, 1723, 1726, 1728, and 1730. He was also a Private in Capt. Cornelius Conkling's company of East Hampton militiamen in 1715; Cornelius was his uncle. Finally, he served as Justice of the Peace. One of the last records of him is that his name appears on a list of Montauk land holders in 1727.
Ananias died in East Hampton on 8 Spetember 1730. He died intestate, and letters of administration were granted to his son Joseph on 22 October 1730.
After his death, Martha married Deacon John Mulford on 19 September 1733. The date of her death is unclear.
