I, too, am in the midst of researching Conkling/Concklyn/Conklin/Conckelyne surnames. There are many different branches. My family has stayed on the north fork of Long Island, NY (desc. of John II). However, there are other major lines in Huntington, LI, NY as well as Easthampton, NY; and Ohio just to name a few that I have found on the internet. Rootsweb and their listserves have been very valuable as have FamilyTreeMaker online. There is a wealth of information on the 'net about this surname, but some of it can be contradictory. Best advice: Take all the info you can get, plus sources if you can. Later on you can verify.
