Hi Kathryn--Long time since I've heard from you. Elias apparently died in the 1850's and Frances lived with Ephriam and Elizabeth. I went to Iowa last month. I tried to visit the Conklin Cemetery, but could not get in. It is out in the farmland about 2 miles north of Sandyville (which is a beep in the road---only saw a junkyard and a few houses). The road that you take was washed out by a flood (this was told to me by a local insurance agent that we talked to). We went as far as we could and had to turn around then we tried from the other side. The next day, we went back and parked and walked down into where the car could not go. There was a little bridge and we crossed it and we were standing there and felt the ground start to shake. We realized that a train was coming and sure enough this big freight train came roaring through. After it passed we crossed the tracks and went up this little hill. We saw a very old barn, and a clump of trees behind it. Unfortunately, this was on someone's land. The day before a bunch of dogs came running out from this property and surrounded the car, so I didn't think it would be wise to go tramping around on this property. I was disappointed.

There was a website and now I can't find it. Another descendent of Elias and Ephriam, by the name of Dale Duane Conklin went there and took pictures and had them posted on his website. I contacted him, and his wife wrote me back to say he had passed away in January.

I know Elias, Frances, Ephriam, (Ephriam's daughter Sarah Conklin Ritchey and some of her children are buried there), I don't know where Elizabeth Conklin was buried, but she died March 18, 1896--I have a death card on her. Also a brother, Jeremiah and two of his sons, and I believe some neighbors. A total of 31 people are buried there.

I have never found out who Elias's parents were.

Nice to hear from you again

Karol
