Three CONKLING men are listed on the 1775 Elizabeth, New Jersey Freeholder list. They are Joshua (b. 1727), Joseph (b.1729), and David CONKLING. Litell suggests that Joseph and Joshua were brothers. The father of some of them is probably the Joseph CONKLING purchased land in Elizabethtown in 1731. Family naming patterns among Joseph’s descendants suggest a possible link to the PIERSON or HATCH families. It has been suggested that they may be grandsons of Joseph and Mary (EDWARDS) CONKLING of Southold or grandsons of John and Sarah (HORTON) CONKLIN of Southold. Does anyone have any clues or ideas on their ancestry, relationship, or birth place?
