Kelli, I am interested in the origin of the Conklin name. My Aunt Martha who was the family historian told me that the name was derived from the "Gaelic"(Ceangleann,Caenglen,) Also I wa told there was a" Dutch" name (Konkelan) My research of the Dutch in NY, church records, ship manifest did not show any (Konkelans) at all. I do know that Irishmen
contracted out to the Dutch as soldiers and the enlistment records of the irish names were written the way the Dutch pronounced the name. Eg. O"Brien written in Dutch as Obreyan etc.
Any info you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you
