Edith Francis, 96, of Amanda, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 at Main Street Terrace Care Center. She was born November 21, 1912 in Ross County and was the daughter of the late Delmer and Katie (Schwalbach) Congrove. Edith was a member of the Amanda United Methodist Church. She was valedictorian of her class at Adelphi High School and a star basketball player.
She is survived by five sons, Warren E. (Juanita) Francis of Lancaster, Bob Francis of Amanda, Jack D. Francis of Lancaster, Ernest E. "Bill" (Rita) Francis and John W. Francis both of Amanda; four daughters, June (Hans) Wooster of Baltimore, Susan Elder of Lancaster, Mary Jill McFarland of Canal Winchester and Linda Ann (Stanley) Huggins of Laurelville; 26 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. "Bill" Francis; daughter, Barbara K. Tyrolf; great granddaughter, Heather McCreary; sisters, Ada Fast and Louise Dum; daughters-in-law, Patricia and Vivian Francis and son-in-law, Al Tyrolf.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at THE TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME in Amanda with Rev. Tony Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Amanda Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
