Annie, Jo and Eleanor,
Made the short trek to York, NE, USA and the family secret that my grgrandmother, Mary Wood, and grgrandfather, Archie Condy were cousins is getting closer to being solved. Eleanor has helped to analyze and if the above is true, then the last name of Archie's mother was either a Wood or Wilson. Or, Archie's father had a sister who married a Wood or a Wilson. The cemetery records where Archie and MAry are buried showed that Mary's parents were Samuel Wood and Jane Wilson.
In York, we found that Rev. Samuel Wood was the brother to my Mary Wood, and not her father. Helped to clarify the audio tape made by my Aunt Lou Blue, our Condy historian who has now passed. After returning home, I saw on one of the papers we had gotten that there was a Sarah J Wood listed. Obit index stated that family name tied to her was WILSON!! Sarah J Wood is a sibling to Rev Samuel Wood. She and her brother, John, moved to the states and lived in York, NE also. They came over in 1890, 5 years after Rev. Samuel died. Why did they choose there to settle? Some other family member must still be unidentified. Archie Condy's brother, Hamilton did stay with the Rev. Samuel Wood family but moved west in 1889 and stayed with Archie and Mary.
This is getting closer to confirming that Mary Wood's parents were Samuel Wood and Jane Wilson. One of Archie Condy's possible sisters married John A. Armstrong on 11-13-1883. Witness to the marriage was Hugh Wilson, a cousin to the Condys. It is known from info received that Elizabeth Condy as from Killen, Co Tyrone, 6 mi from Drumquin. The Armstrongs lived in Tulynagin. I have lost contact with the Armstrong researcher who provided a copy of the marriage license, and would love to hear from her again, as I lost the copy when my other computer crashed. Archie and Mary Wood-Condy homesteaded in Nebraska, and the Armstrong family homesteaded across the road. It was told to me that we were related, but shirt-tail. If any of these tidbits help you help me, I would greatly appreciate your knowledge. Thanks all 3 of you, for the info. I can't get any of it to confirm anything, but lots of info to digest. I can't wait to identify Archie Condy's(born 1849) mother who married Alexander Condy.
Once I can get a copy of the obit for Sarah J. Wood, spinster, it will open more windows.
Thanks
Carol Condy-Bennett
