Condon Family Genealogy Forum

I am interested the the general family history and the work and references available. Some General reading has led me to the fact that the Condon's were Norman and before that Norse. They were vassals to Lord Pembroke of Wales (Strongbow) and the name Condon Clan Gibbon may come from the fact that the Gibbons was a swamp in the estate of Lord Pembroke. The Condon family must have played a large role in the Norman invasion of Ireland since they were given a large estate, (up to 30 castles at one time) and were situated close to the Roches who were mentioned prominently in history. Interestingly the Roches and Condons feuded for centuries. Prior to the Norman invasion of England the name was de Caundeton. Does anyone know where Caundeton was in Normany. There are mentions of a Nigel de Caundeton who plotted against William, was exiled, pardoned and joined the invasion. (Maybe the memory of the abortive plot is why they got a swamp when William won in England) Interestingly, the condom, for which many of us get teased was the invention of one David Condon court physician to Phillip I of England. If anyone has good references on the early history of the family please let me know. Sincerely, Edward M. Condon M.D. Son of Edward T.
