My grandmother, Margaret CONDON Carr, married Michael Carr, bore her first child, Marie, in Jersey City, NJ. Margaret was born in Limerick, Michael in Tipperary. They married in London in 1872, and FOR SOME REASON, immigrated to the states between 1872-1875. After Marie was born, they returned to London, where they stayed until they died in the late 1930s.

I wonder if they went to Jersey City because of work on a St. Patrick's Cathedral there; my grandfather was a stone mason. Or did they go to Jersey City because there were other Condons there to whom my grandmother was related?

Your Garrett Condon would have been in his last years. Do you know anything about a cluster of Condons in Jersey City at that time?

In the very northeastern part of Cork, there is a "Barony" (collection of townlands) known as The Barony of Condons & Clangibbons. There are hundreds of Condons in this region, which is right on the border between Limerick and Tipperary counties. Some of my Condons came from that region, possibly including Margaret CONDON, daughter of William, possibly of Kilbehenny, right on the border north of Mitchelstown.
