Kermit,

I was interested to see that your link with the Condie family is from Kirkcaldy, Scotland, as is mine. My great, great grandfather George Condie, b. 1824 - d. 1877 came to Australia from Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1852. My family's version of the origins of the name Condie is that it dates back to the time of the Nobles and the Bourbon Kings of France, as in Prince Louis de Conde. Prior to the revolution members of the family 'relocated' to Scotland, where the name was Anglicized by dropping the 'de' and replacing the accented 'e' with 'ie'.

Regards,

Malcolm Condie
