Hi Bonnie

I can't say for certain at the moment but I am investigating the strong possibility that my family in Australia came from Scotland via the Golden Era which sailed from Liverpool in 1855. On board was a Joseph Condie (possibly my great grandfather)aged 10, together with his father William (46), mother Agnes (47) and a number of siblings including a Robert (20).

I have traced this branch of the family to Dysart (Fyfe) where Joseph was born in 1844. His father William was born in 1808 and was married to Agnes Gordon around 1830. William's father appears also to be called William. William Snr married a Jean (or Jane on some records) Scobie.

If you require any further information as to what happened via Joseph's line in Australia (and now in England) then please let me know. I would also be very interested to find out about what happened to the other family members who came out with him.

Good luck with your investigations,

Dianne Copeland (nee Condie)
