There were earlier Condies in Scotland. George Black, in "The Surnames of Scotland" refers to John de Conady in Perthshire, adjoining Clackmannan, in 1414. He also mentions other Condies before 1559. He believed the family took its name from the lands of Condie near Forgandenny in Perthshire.There are many towns called Conde in France. If there really is a French connection I suspect that it comes through the place name, rather than through the surname. In other words, we took our surname from the place name in Scotland and it took its name from one of the Conde towns in France, without our being related in any way to the French Conde family. I can't prove this of course; but I doubt very much whether anyone can prove a direct link between the Scottish Condies and the French Condes either.
