Now that many of the Irish records are available online I am able to square the circle:- My grandfather was Thomas who was born in Tuam in 1884. Siblings I know about are Austin, born in 1883 who farmed the family farm at Tirboy, Galway, Mary (known as Mamie) who may very well be the sister "kidnapped" from the emigrant ship and Malachy, who was the priest and Willie (born 1890) who was a solicitor. His father was Malachy who was born on the 20th of June 1841 in Tuam and married Catherine Drisken (known as Delia) on the 5th of February 1874 in Tuam. Malachy was described as a "landholder" of Tirboy. In the 1911 census he was living with his wife, his son Austin and his sister Mary (born 1852) together with a Delia who was born 1896. Malachy died in 1933 and Delia (I think) in 1940. Malachy's father was Patrick who was born on the 24th of December 1808 and was baptised at Menlough, Moate, Galway. He married Brigid Coen in Tuam on the 18th of February 1833. His name is variously spelled Cuncannon and Concanon. His certificate of baptism records neither mother nor father but spells the name "Concanon" which is the spelling used by the senior branch then living at Carrownacreggy near Mount Bellew Bridge. This suggests that he was an illegitimate son. The Concanon's were protestants and had been given the land by Charles II in 1668, they having lost their ancestral land at the time of the Civil War. The head of the family at that time was Henry Concanon, who was a solicitor in London, and had a fairly full social diary, including the giving of balls by his wife Rachel and accompanying the Prince Regent to the races. Edmond John Concanon, his eldest son had been born on the 29th of January 1792 and is the favourite candidate for Patrick's father. Patrick was baptised a Catholic. I suspect that there was a settlement of sorts, because Patrick was already farming Tirboy by 1848, which he leased from John Handcock Notify Administrator about this message?
