Johan: My father-in-law was born in Antwerp as Francois Louis Van Steenkiste. His father was Louis Francois Van Steenkiste and I understand that the generation before would have been Francois Louis, etc.

My father-in-law and family fled to England when Germany invaded during WWI. They returned to Belgium and decided to immigrate to US before WWII when my father-in-law was a young man about 18-20 yrs. old.

He was an artist and became a commercial artist with an office in New York City. His name was not easy for business so he americanized the name: Frank Van Steen.

Hope this helps in you quest. By the way, can you tell me what Van Steenkiste means? Of the stone ...., I believe. Thanks
