Mr. William H. Comstock, 88, died. President of the W.H. Comstock Co., manufactures of patent dedicines, former member of parliament for Brockville,NY and three times mayor of the town. He was born in Batavia, Genesee Co., NY on Aug. 1st, 1830 and was thus in his 89th year. The Comstocks were among the first settlers of Connecticut. In 1795, Samuel Comstock severed his connections with his native state, and removed to Gilbertsville, Otsego Co., NY, where he located upon the extreme western limits of the settlement. Samuel's brother, John L. Comstock, of Hartford, Ct, was the author of "Comstock's Chemistry and Natural Philosophy", for many years a standard American text-book.

William H. Comstock was the son of Edwin Perkins Comstock, who removed to Batavia, NY in 1828. On the death of Mrs. Edwin Perkins Comstock (nee- Sarah Bell) in 1831, her husband removed to New York City and there embarked in an extensive drug and medicine business.

William H. Comstock married Mrs. Josephine (Flint), daughter of Billa Flint and, widow of William Elliott , in 1864. Mrs. Comstock died on Jan. 28th, 1899. Of the issue of this marriage, Edwin P. Comstock died on May 23, 1892 aged 26, and Katherine Comstock is the wife of C.S. Cossitt, Brockville, NY. In 1893, Mr. Comstock was married again to Miss Alice Janet Gates, daughter of the late Rossie Gates, and of Mrs Sarah Gates of Brockville, NY who surives him. William H. Comstock is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters, Lieut. W.H. Comstock of the Royal Air Force, Mrs. John Langmuir of Toronto, and Miss Wilhelmina Comstock and Miss Griswoldine Comstock of Brockville, NY.
