Duncan Comrie (b. 26 Sep 1779 - Comrie, Comrie Parish, Scotland - d. 14 Aug 1847 - Otonabee Twp., Peterborough Co., Ontario) m. (1) Christian McCowen; (2) Janet Miller (b. 4 May 1802 - Comrie, Comrie Parish, Scotland - d. 16 Nov 1862 - Otonabee Twp., Peterborough Co., Ontario). Duncan and Christian had one son, William. Duncan and Janet had nine children, Margaret, Christina, Janet, Ellen, Elizabeth, Peter, Mary Ann, Catherine, John.

Duncan Comrie was stated to be the leader of the group which emigratd from Comrie in 1829. He apparently had a wife and four children under 17 years of age at the time. The party of 78 souls departed Greenock in Scotland and landed at St. John, New Brunswick where they rested for a few days before traveling by foot on to Lachine where they again took to a boat or travelled
foot to Lake Ontario. Onward again by boat to Colburg on the north shore of the lake and thence to Rice Lake and Otonabee River where they set to work on the lands allotted them. The first need was for a cabin to provide shelter and then to clear an area of forrest for sowing of corn. It's hard to imagine the hardships and difficulties they endured in their first years in Canada. At least there was no shortage of food or fuel and they eventually propered after many gruelling years.

Looking for ancestors of Duncan.
