You can stay where you are, as it is your decision.
Currently, Version 2008, 2009, and 2010 are able to open your Version 2006 family file. BUT, they will NOT be able to read any of your Back Ups (FBC files). The new versions are NOT able to open FBC files.
I have been on version 2009 and 2010 and won't go back. I am guessing that the problems you heard about were for Version 2008. If you have other Specific Issues / Problems that you heard about, please post them here, on this thread of messages, as they can be addresses.
