If you go to any store, you will find bunded software with some CDs and other things you don't need. I remember seeing full versions of Famiy Tree Maker for almost 100 dollars a few years back before I purchased it. It had World Family Tree bundes and the Canadian version included an 1871 census and I think the Ontario Register. However... the program itself without any other bundled software incuded with it, was what you see now on line. About 40 dollars. Look on line. Shop and be smart. Most software for genealogy is inexpensive. Some offer free trial periods for downloads.

Ask yourself questions. So I want to publish a book or print off charts? How detailed do I want to be with sources and citations and reports? What about images and video capabiities etc ( if any).
Then email the software companies for more information. Ask friends and others how they find the software to their liking. Is it limited? Is it what they want? Or are they thinking they should have something better. And if they want something better, what is it they woud use?
