You've given a non-response to the new information on the Comptons of Russell Co., Va. No one questions that Hannibal A. Compton was a grandson of Benjamin W. Compton and Margaret A. Cecil. What can be inferred from the Tax List, provided by Brett, is that John Compton III and Polly Walls are NOT Hannibal's G-Grandparents.
The tax lists of Russell Co., Va gives the approximate year John A. Compton, Lee Compton, Benjamin Compton, and William Compton turn 21. These folks are the very Compton brothers in Hannibal's statement to COMPTONOLOGY. None of Benjamin W. Compton's researchers doubt that John A. Compton is Benjamin's brother. John A. is on the 1840 Russell Co., Va Census and on the lists provided by Brett in his post. He is the son ofThomas Compton as are Lee, James, Benjamin W., and William F.
My ancestor Lee Compton was the brother of William F. Compton. Hannibal gave Lee and "Uncle Billy" as the brothers, in Pike Co., Ky, of John A.Compton and Benjamin W. Compton. Lee and William F. are the sons of Thomas Compton.
Look at the tax list again. Oral histories often are not wholly true but there are generally some grains of truth in them. Oral histories should be a starting point and not considered definitive without corroboration. The Compton Family Trees which give John Compton III and Polly Walls as parents of John A., Lee, Benjamin W., and William F. are not correct.
If not convinced of the above, you'll have to wait for more dna evidence to surface.
