Speculation. All this speculation with no proof. Most people want to be descendants of Royalty. That's why, during the 19th century, anyone and everyone who had their family tree traced by so called genealogist were told that they were descendants of royalty. But not everyone can be kings. That is only wishful thinking. Many people are happy, once they are told that they are connected to royalty, to leave it at that and not invesigate it further seeking actual proof. A true genealogist wants proof and is satisfied to accept it one way or the other once proof is given, ie primary documentation, not just someones word for it. I am seeking proof, and I beleive there are a few others that are also, proving our Compton line one way or the other. Being that this Compton line has been thoughly gleened for any and all documentation connecting William Compton of Gravesend, N.Y. to Earl Spencer Compton, and have found none, the only way I can see of proving or disproving this is through DNA. Hopefully, in the near future, those Compton descendants of William of Gravesend, can find a true documented male descendant of Earl Spencer Compton, and persuade him to submit his DNA for comparision to that of a true documented male descendant of William Compton of Gravesend. Let's all work on that goal.
