Hi, Susan!
I have the following listing of Comptons: Isselstyne Compton married Aaltje Blaaw (Orchie Blue) in Hopewell, New Jersey in 1720. John Compton I (1730-1778) first married Lydia Carhart and had a daughter Amy and possibly others. After Lydia died, John married Margaret Raemer (often referred to as the German Lady) in c1755. Margaret's family immigrated from Germany in 1735 to escape religious persecution. John Compton I left New Jersey with Abraham Compton (relationship varies) and arrived in Augusta County, Virginia by 1772. They finally migrated to Botetourt County, Virginia, in 1775, where John bought 411 acres on 4 May 1775 from John Mills.Johnwas accidentally killed in 1778 when a limb on a tree he was cutting down, fell on him. John and Margaret are reported to have had ten children. The children I have listed are Joseph Compton born about 1759; Stephen born about 1762; Richard Compton born about 1765; Elizabeth born about 1767; William Compton born about 1767; Lydia Compton born 1770; Samuel Compton, no date found; and Catherine Compton, born about 1775. The children of John Compton and Lydia Franz are as follows: Amy Compton; John Compton born about 1760 and died March 1828 in Tazewell County, Virginia; Jeremiah Compton born October 1754. I have more information on almost all of John, Lydia, and Margaret's children if you are interested. It would be easier for me to correspond by email: my email address is [email protected].
